Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck surgery or abdominoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove loose skin and tighten the muscles of the abdomen.  After a pregnancy or significant weight loss, people often cannot eradicate excess skin and tissue around the waist through diet and exercise. Abdominoplasty is intended to correct these problems and restore a smoother, flatter abdomen.

How to know if abdominoplasty is right for you

The ideal patient will exhibit conditions like these:

  • excess skin around the abdomen and waist
  • protruding abdomen
  • stretched ab muscles

Good candidates will also have a strong desire to correct these cosmetic problems, be healthy non-smokers, have a stable body weight and be capable of understanding the risks and benefits of surgery.

How abdominoplasty is performed

During surgery an incision is made across the waist, with care being taken to ensure scars can be hidden under your clothing. Excess skin and a limited amount of fat may be removed with liposuction before the incisions are closed. Sometimes Dr. Cozzone will perform a procedure called lipo-abdominoplasty that involves contouring and fat removal of the abdomen as well.

Abdominoplasty is an elective procedure. It isn't covered by health insurance and like any other surgical procedure, there are risks involved. During a consultation with Dr. Cozzone, you can discuss the risks, benefits, and cost of abdominoplasty. The doctor can also discuss with you what you might expect during recovery from surgery and how long it will take to see results.  Contact our office in New Jersey for more information.
